NOTE The 13th-century church of St Marys, its leafy churchyard (and gravestones) and the magnificent Prebendal House, previously a girls school and a former home of Lady Rosebery are a short walk away. The house is also just around the corner from the award-winning County Museum, incorporating the Roald Dahl Museum, and a few minutes walk from the market, Marks & Spencers food hall, cinema, library, shopping centre. The 15th-century Kings Head, the only pub owned by the National Trust, is tucked away at the top of the Market Square and is just 3 minutes walk. It takes only 5 minutes to walk downhill to the railway station for a direct but rather sedate 55-minute journey to London Marylebone.
Although Aylesbury is an ordinary English market town, much of the best of which was demolished in the 1960s, whats left of the old town is well worth seeing.
PARKING Two permits available on application to Aylesbury Vale District Council.
